He is always inspired by it not only for forms and images, but also creates complete sets for opera and ballet. Bjørn Wiinblad had the idea of ​​transforming his favourite opera, Mozart's "The Magic Flute", into porcelain. And not as a decoration, but as a porcelain relief. This realisation was certainly one of the greatest challenges for model makers and technicians in the history of this material.The "Magic Flute" is a masterpiece of hard porcelain craftsmanship. Each service shows a different scene from Mozart's opera. For these scenes, it was necessary to create space by using extremely wide plate flags. On this porcelain stage, Wiinblad tells the story of the opera in relief with detailed figures and ornaments. There is always something new to discover in these scenes. The flags had to be as wide as ever for the plates. To prevent them from sinking during firing, a special firing technique had to be developed. The "Magic Flute" service has something very special that is not visible at first glance: a decoration on the underside of the porcelain! Even in the white version, all service pieces bear the text of the opera libretto of the scene depicted in the respective porcelain relief on the underside. Another special feature of this service: the relief surfaces are not glazed, but are sanded and polished in an elaborate process after the second firing. This creates the soft, matt effect of the reliefs, which contrast fascinatingly with the glazed surfaces.
